This behind the scenes clip is really about how Wes Anderson directed Fantastic Mr. Fox, but I’m posting it because I love seeing that they shot it with regular consumer DSLRs. The first one you see is a Canon EOS 50D, for example, which isn’t even one of the top of the line Canon cameras. It certainly makes perfect sense that they’d use them, but you always kind of think that big movie productions have specialty equipment so it’s cool to see that this isn’t always the case.

Kaeti asked, in response to my most-hated songs, which songs you can’t live without. Well, this is one of them this month.
It is good in traffic, when you are waving your short hair around and kinda crying and telling yourself, “It’s getting better all the time,” which it is, even though it doesn’t really seem like it right now.

matt has let me borrow his camera for the past few days and it has been amazing. my high school was very small and we had to choose between any kind of art classes or music classes. you could not be in choir and orchestra alongside of drawing and photography. being in symphony and auditioning all the time it went without saying that i would be in the orchestra, but i was always envious of the kids who got to spend their time behind an easel or in a darkroom. i think that working in a darkroom would feel like the first time i (finally) sat in front of an easel my freshman year of college- terrifying, exhilarating, and absolutely perfect. i was born to be behind the scenes and seek out the details. i don’t know how to use the camera well yet and i’m not great at giving direction, but i can make people feel comfortable and i notice absolutely everything. the possibility of learning how to capture things the way that i see them makes me understand what people mean when they want their work to be their voice. hm.
anyway, it’s friday morning, i’m working in bed, and i went to get a glass of water. there is a glass from last night on the table with a little bit of water in it and the sunrise hit it to make the most interesting light and shadows and i needed to photograph it. i hadn’t charged the battery yet from yesterday and was unable to, but i sat and watched the light change while the sun went up ever so slowly and thought about the details in life and felt a bit validated for some reason. what i’m saying is that i’d like to be a photographer someday, just like everybody else in the world. i’m going to add it to the list.
